Founded in 1967, Twin Cities Heart and Lung is the oldest private practice of its kind in the region. We are experienced and board-certified in thoracic, cardiac (that is, heart and lung), and vascular surgery. We serve patients for the following needs, among others: lung resections, valve repair or replacement, repair of congenital lung and heart defects, heart transplants, lung cancer, coronary artery bypasses, chest wall reconstructions, thorascopy, aneurysms, and varicose or spider veins.

Over the years, we have been privileged to achieve a number of milestones in surgery,
both locally and internationally:
-Founded Children's Heartlink in 1969, an international organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of heart disease in children.
-Co-founded the Minneapolis Heart Institute in 1981.
-Co-founded the first private cardiac transplantation program in Minnesota.
-Pioneered the development and clinical assessment of the total artificial heart and assist devices.
-Implanted the world's first artificial heart in a woman (1985) and in a child (1987).
-Were instrumental in developing and implementing state and national databases for tracking outcomes in cardiac surgery.
-Have served in medical leadership positions at both local and national levels.
-Have participated in many ongoing clinical research protocols aimed at improving patient experiences and outcomes.
