Left Atrium
One of two the upper chambers of the heart. The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and sends it through the mitral valve into the left ventricle. |
Left Ventricle
One of two lower chambers of the heart. It is considered the "pumping chamber" because it forces blood out of the heart and into the body under high pressure. |
Lobectomy
The removal of one of the five smaller segments, or lobes, of the lungs. There are two lobes in the left lung and three in the right lung. |
Lung Biopsy
The removal of a small sample of lung tissue from a targeted area to determine the cause of the disease. |
