Saphenous Vein
A vein that runs the entire length of the leg. It is often used as a conduit to bypass blockage on the heart.

Shunt
A device used in surgery to allow continuous flow of blood around a blockage while the problem is being corrected.

Stenosis
The narrowing of a passage.

Stent
A mesh tube designed to be inserted into an artery to hold it open. It is placed by a cardiologist in the catheterization lab.

Superficial
Close to the surface or shallow.

Sympathetic Nervous System
The system of nerves that is responsible for the "fight-or-flight" response.
