The surgeons at Twin Cities Heart and Lung believe in patient education. We've designed our site to help you learn about procedures so you can understand them and proceed with your treatment with the knowledge to put your fears to rest.
Lung surgery is most commonly performed for several reasons. First, surgery may be required if a mass has been detected in the lung, and ultrasound and CT tests cannot completely determine if the mass is harmful or cancerous. Surgery may also be necessary if there is a fluid or air buildup in the space around the lungs, whether from infection or injury. Finally, surgery may be the only remedy for a collapsed lung, or for lung damage due to emphysema.
